Walkscapes deals with strolling as an architecture of landscape. Here, walking is seen as an autonomous form of art, a primary act in the symbolic transformation of the territory, an aesthetic instrument of knowledge and a physical transformation of the 'negotiated' space, which is converted into an urban intervention. From primitive nomadism to Dada and Surrealism, from t..more

This book provided exactly what I was looking for in my thesis research on walking as an aesthetic practice. I think that further reading into the Situationists has helped inform both my concept and my title for my project. Furthermore, Robert Smithson is amazing and being exposed to more of his works and writings has been essential to the formation of the theoretical framework of my project. I'll definitely be using his project 'The Monuments of the Passaic' as a precedent. Other things I got r..more
I like the book for defining the role of walking in the connection and progression with Dadaist, Surrealist and Lettrist movements.

I ended up copying down at least 20% of this book word for word.
It's the kind of book you write, and it is so rich with ideas, you spend the next 20 years traveling the world, explaining and expounding.
best that i've read in this series, great feeling of accomplishment when you finish a bilingual book, makes me want to read more about walking
